Dear Friends:

Mindful of recent guidance from U.S. public health officials to practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings of people, we have postponed our 13th Annual Miami Dinner scheduled for April the 3rd until a later date when it is safe to congregate.

Sadly, the spread of the COVID-19 has added fuel to the already raging fire of poverty that is spreading rapidly in Lebanon. Lebanon is facing its worst economic crisis ever which was already weighing heavily on all the Lebanese with loss of income and the spiraling cost of basic goods. It is estimated that 50% of the population is now below the poverty line and are struggling to provide their families with the mere basics. And now this pandemic is making an already bad situation worse!

RMF Lebanon is moving full force to meet this unprecedented challenge by undertaking a number of initiatives aimed at combatting the Coronavirus. It has started by supporting those in the front lines, namely the Rafiq Hariri Hospital and the Lebanese Red Cross who are the only ones currently equipped to do testing, with financial assistance of $10,000 each. In coordination with the Lebanese Ministry of Health, and with a $40,000 seed money from RMF and pledges from many caring individuals from that region, it is working on equipping the medical facilities in the North to be able to receive coronavirus patients from the region and surrounding areas so that they can be tested locally. Its Food For Hunger program, launched to deal with the economic crisis, will be expanding to more needy families and adding sanitary kits to the food boxes.

Our Annual fundraisers are our primary sources of funding to support RMF Lebanon’s many initiatives.  The current crisis will greatly impact our ability to do so. We hope that we can still count on your support outside of an event context now that our work is more than ever critical.
