Ambassador Nada Hamadeh and Dr. Gerard Moawad

Ambassador Nada Hamadeh

Ambassador of Lebanon to the United States

Ambassador Nada Hamadeh serves as the Ambassador of Lebanon to the United States.

Prior to her diplomatic appointment, Ambassador Hamadeh was the Co-Founder, Board Member and Chief Financial Officer of MedCap Health, one of the largest private equity-backed healthcare platforms on the East Coast. In this executive role, she led the company’s financial strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and long-term investment planning, leveraging a global career in policy and finance to drive innovation and growth in the healthcare sector.

Ambassador Hamadeh brings more than two decades of policy expertise and diplomatic leadership, shaped by a distinguished career at the World Bank Group, where she held multiple senior roles. Most recently, she served as Lead Economist and Manager in the Development Economics Vice Presidency, where she led the Bank’s work on debt transparency and sustainability, concessional financing eligibility, and macroeconomic policy issues including public debt, inflation, and food security.

Her leadership placed her at the center of international economic diplomacy, representing the World Bank in sovereign debt restructuring negotiations at the G20 and G7. In this capacity, she worked directly with finance ministers, central bankers, and global policymakers to shape cooperative solutions to complex debt crises. She played a key role in advancing global standards on debt transparency, often serving as a liaison between developing countries and creditors during high-stakes negotiations.

Ambassador Hamadeh also led two high-impact global partnerships—one focused on food security and another on the cost-of-living crisis. In these roles, she navigated delicate multilateral negotiations and coordinated institutional responses to the compounding challenges of global inflation, disrupted food supply chains, and rising poverty. Her work involved convening and aligning multilateral institutions, development banks, and national governments around shared policy goals.

Before her tenure at the World Bank, Ambassador Hamadeh served with the United Nations, supporting economic development initiatives across the Middle East and North Africa. Earlier in her career, she worked with the Prime Minister of Lebanon on post-war economic recovery, foreign direct investment promotion, and economic development strategy—supporting Lebanon’s re-engagement with the international community during a pivotal time of reconstruction.

Her contributions continued to shape policy, governance and advocacy. Ambassador Hamadeh served on the Board of Governors of the Middle East Institute, the Board of Directors of the American Task Force on Lebanon, the Board of Directors of RMF USA, and the Technical Advisory Board of the World Bank’s International Comparison Program. She also served on the Women Leadership Council of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s, a leading foundation advancing research and advocacy to combat Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Ambassador Hamadeh is equally committed to philanthropy, especially in healthcare access, education, and economic empowerment. Together with her husband, Dr. Gerard Moawad, she supports charitable initiatives in the United States and Lebanon through their family foundation, with a focus on supporting underserved communities.

She holds a Master of Science in Finance from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the American University of Beirut. She is fluent in English, Arabic, French, and Spanish.
